room

Image is of an Emily Carr painting. The painting depicts an autumn tree that has lost some leaves, with a lake in the background.

I had the opportunity to participate in a contemplative retreat organized by Christa Hesselink this past weekend. It was a wonderful gift of pause, and in one session, Christa shared this painting by Emily Carr. In praying through and reflecting on this painting, I began to write, and I wanted to share the poem that came here.
Praying you know that there is always room in the heart of God for you to be just as you are xo

room

there is room here
there is room for you to be
and to be fully
there is safety in the low branches,
where you can rest
and let your feet dangle,
in glorious release

there is room for possibility
as you climb up and up and up
where you can stretch, stretch out until you’re soaring
here you can risk, be bold
and feel the wind
that will whisk you away

there is colour
and laughter
and promise

there is strength
shelter
and provision
in these vast, unending boughs

there is quiet and softness
there is noise and celebration
there is loss, death
and there is so much life that you cannot possibly
take it all in

there is room here
there is room to be the fullness of who you are
and how you find yourself to be today
